What is Critical Thinking?

Emotional Self-Management

Reflection
For me, the emotions that are most difficult to manage when others disagree with me are:

-Acceptance
-Tolerance

I deal with these by:

First things first, I always look for their most pure comments about the topic. Those comments must have a support or something reliable to be expressed from, if that comment or emotion is not based on something I really consider trustworthy, such as research projects or databases, I just ignore the person's opinion because it is going to be useless to discuss something like that.  If the opinion is assertive and supported by good arguments, then I start saying what I consider for me, myself, and I, remarkable to discuss. It seems easy but, taken to reality, it is much harder since at the moment of the disagreement you are thoughtless and speechless because of your own emotions.

Influences on my thinking

Reflection
For me, the influences on my own thinking need to be most aware of so they don't prejudice my thinking are:

-Beliefs
- Own opinions

I deal with these by:

Trying to consider the other person's opinion so that I can have a broader perception about the topic we are discussing. If that is useless I just ignore it and agree with sarcasm on everything he or she says.

Challenging Opinions
For me, the things I find most difficult about challenging the opinions of other people are:

-Attitude
- Topic

I deal with these by:

I am a person who always tries his est in order not to argue. However, patience has a limit and mine sometimes runs out of quantity. When I challenge other people's opinion I always take advantage of articles I have read or curious data on internet from reliable sources in order to make the other person doubt about their knowledge but if they do not doubt I forget about it because everyone has a different point of view and, as long as they do not try to convince me, which I hate (lol), the conversation will either continue with other topics or finish.

Development of Understanding

Do you recognise anything of yourself in Bodner's description of students?

Yes, I do since I try to teach my classes not only focusing on the grammar rules or structures but on the context in order to make them think outside the box.

What effect would the approach he suggests have on your learning and understanding?

The approach would have a meaningful impact on my learning and understanding because I tend to just receive the knowledge and that is it. However, sometimes I try to question it in regards to my own way of thinking or the common opinions people have on something.

Barriers to Critical Thinking (3)

Consider what you could do to manage these barriers in the next few months.

The barriers I consider have an effect upon me are:
Misunderstanding what is meant by criticism and Insufficient focus and attention to detail.

I think I can try not to focus my attention on activities which distract me from paying attention to class like playing Plants Vs Zombies 2, which I love.

Comentarios

  1. Interesting inner-view (you got it?). It is very good to see the descriptions you make regarding self-control and thought management. When we know and recognize what we like and do not like in ourselves and others, we get to have better ways to cope with daily life situations.

    Well done!
